The filter is used in a horizontal position. The Motorcraft filter has superior checking ability to keep the oil in the filter when sitting over night. I found out the hard way and almost pulled a 302 out for a rebuild because the mains rattled like crazy at start up using a Fram filter. An old mechanic told me to try the Motorcraft just to see if it would solve the problem. Saved myself a lot of work and money.
