And this is one of those "mechanical connections" like Pal-nuts which work GREAT the first time they are assembled and not so good any time after that.

Hence the availability of the "backing bar/nut" version from suppliers.

Suggestions to "straighten" the back retainer of the badge may work. So might using epoxy. I have used a 1/8" cross section O-ring of appropriate diameter around the badge retainer which will squish into the interstice of the retainer and provide additional resistance to removal/loss of the badge. You may have to play with different cross section/diameters to find an appropriate fit. The Harbor Freight "o-ring" kits will give you many choices for small money.
