Default Re: Door hinge pins

We used the tool for the pins and 2 things to note: The paint, in our case, got cracked on the top hinge surface of the outer barrel even with layers of tape. Also, use cardboard to protect door skin paint and use shortest tool pin as possible. Hammer, drift/ punch and other methods wouldn't concentrate the force to the pin as the tool did. As noted in (our) other posts, we drilled the worn hole in the center barrels and installed thin wall s.s. tubing sleeves reamed and drilled out to fit the barrel and new pins. This avoided drilling the outer barrels as some folks do. Also we mild tapered the pin end, very slightly filed the top serrations and dipped in 600 wt.oil for easier installation. Others find oversize pins or use roll pins if the barrel holes are worn, but only our center barrels were worn oval.
