I imagine it's similar to asking "shall I assemble my rearend and then paint it or paint the parts individually and then assemble?"
Makes a big difference in my mind as one would result in the entire rearend being painted black and the second what we would call "detailed" with the painted components black and the hardware, etc. a different finish.
Just a thought.
