Re: How (not!) to put a caddy flathead in a 38/39 truck
Thinking of all the different ways flatheads were used:
I was given two engines:
The first was an 8BA with a Merc crank that was used to run a moving stairway in a warehouse in Oakland, CA. The engine just idled all day and had a governor of sorts that added power when a load (MAN) was on the lift. It was taken out of service when the engine needed an overhaul.
The second was an engine that had sat in the forest up in a place called Challenge, CA. for 27 years. It was mounted on an International truck and ran the boom for lifting logs.
The owner had drained the engine cooling system and left it there. Turned out to be a great engine that I gave to a friend.
Flatheads found many uses
