That's a good question that I have asked myself every time I check my tires. Mine are the rubber stems. Are the metal stems shorter.
Which brings up another question; Has anyone ever used a motorcycle tube in a model A tire? Is it even feasible? I see Coker has a tube with a 1½" tall stem.
