I always heard that the MARC gears were good (I have no first-hand experience using anything but original gears). But you still might have too much play with the gears on the main shaft.
Several posters have mentioned their experience with main and throwout bearing quality.
The article referenced has pretty much identified all causes of sliding out of gear... but you have eliminated several of those by swapping the tower.
