Looks like ya got it.....
The vacuum advance is a "overlap" from mechanical.
Once the engine starts the engine vac is high and gives you lets say 16 degrees advance from the vacuum unit.
Then when you load the engine the vacuum goes down and the advance comes from the engine rpm increase and lets say thats also 16 degrees.
So between the two you have a pretty perfect world.
xx amount of timing all the time .
The vac can be as much as 2-3 mpg as well.
