The Key to a great sounding engine, lays in the diameter and length of the tail pipes. For a stock or mild modified engine I'd go with 1 3/4 in pipe. Back in the early 50/s I had a 33 chevy with 1-1/2 in water pipe (My dad was a plumber) straight out the back. The rap was so bad it broke a window.
