thanks for your reply guys. the pilot hub/fan system I mentioned isn't pilot ,I don't own one of these cars but I acquired this unit a few years ago off a friend who had a pilot so I assumed it was from an English ford v8 pilot late 40s early 50s ,they have apparently the fan attached to the dynamo,anyway the spare unit I have is almost the same as mine but I have 4 fan blades the spare has 6 smaller blades,a bit rusty and when I topped it with oil it seeps out ,there is a rubber seal at the end which is perished and I,m not sure how to take it apart as there is nothing obvious like nuts ,bolts ,screws the bearing seems o.k but with a small amount of play and it very slightly snatches when turned by hand , not quite sure what to do ,I think I will sleep on it ,thanks Jim.
