The 49-53 passenger car fans do, in fact, have a sealed bearing in a completely different hub assembly. This was ONE complete assembly from Ford....the fan, the sheave, the hub & bearing, and the mounting bracket. Ford did NOT sell any separate service parts for this assembly.....it was only sold as the complete assy.
For whatever reason, Ford continued using the oil filled type fan hub in the trucks, even after they had switched to the sealed bearing type in the passenger cars for 1949. One odd exception to this was the 1949 Mercury, which still used the oil filled fan assy.
A few different fan blade diameters were used over the span of production of the oil filled fan design. However, they ALL used the same hub and sheave assy. Here is the list of models using this hub & sheave:
1942-48 Ford cars
1942-49 Merc cars
1942-52 Ford trucks
This entire discussion refers to the fan assemblies used on the flathead V8's. The six cylinder models used a completely different fan....no interchange of parts.
