What a nightmare! After buying my 38 I decided to try and find a decent flathead on Craigslist. I found a guy about 5 hours drive who had a 100hp 59 block that he had never started, but was supposedly rebuilt. I traded a VW sandrail that I had about $3500 into straight across. I was not aware of the possible myriad of potential problems my new flathead could have. Fortunately it has turned out to be a good motor, but things could have been so different. There are a lot of honest folks out there that aren't just out to burn the next novice that comes along. I hope you can recover from this bad experience and your friend can get his car on the road.
