It has been stated many times to NEVER try and start an engine without some idea of its condition. The old straight weight oils were just sludge hungry forming fluids back in the day. As the video showed, why try and run an engine with a mess like that resting in the pan. A good and thorough cleaning will avoid many of the pitfalls and maybe the cost of a rebuild if caught early. I applaud this man taking his friends advice.
