Based on other threads here, I replaced my air maze filter with this one from eBay.

The car runs much better and if there is gas dripping out of the carb, it doesn't soak the filter. I have not checked my plugs since, but there has not been one thing that I have done to my car to make it run better than to swap out the air maze for this. Many folks will say that you don't need an air filter, but I prefer one, even though there is probably not as much dust in the air now as there was when the A was new.
