Depends on which "side" of the head. Some folks want them partially on the outside with some of it sticking through the inside. In all seriousness, what you are asking without knowing exactly "which" head would be just pure speculation. OHV vs. F-head sv. L-head greatly matters, and the shape of each of those combustion chambers.

With regard to babbitt, I know you could safely make more horsepower on babbitt than what the 3-main crank can handle. If you need a number, ...I would feel comfortable making 200+ hp on 'banger' w/ babbitt.
