I never followed up on this to verify the size, but when I was flying the 737 I was sitting on the fold down jumpseat in the cockpit to get home and I took note of the ashtray. It was round and pulled out just like the '36 sedan I had. After smoking in the cockpit got banned most of them disappeared.
