Just got the 40 on the road. It has the correct 85 hp engine along with the 99 carb. I had a factory rebuilt carb (in the box and never used) and put that on. No hesitation very smooth however, it would not idle correct. I messed with the idle air screws and just could not get it to idle. (The one screw on the pass side made no difference if it was all the closed or all the way out.)
I put the old one back on because I can at least drive the car. Once in gear there’s no hesitation and runs fine it’s just that first second shifting into gear that it bogs down.
I thought that it may be my distributor vacuum brake but I ruled that out tonight with the switching of carbs. Still can’t get it to ping though.
Any ideas on the carb issue??
