Re: 37/38 Ford Cabriolets
Ahhhh, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. In my opinion the team that designed the 1938 Ford got as close to perfection in the Art Deco styling stakes as it is possible to get.
The modernist architect Mies Van de Rohe coined the term "Less is more" and this could be aptly applied to the '38' design. The coupe is more attractive than the sedan, the convertable also.
My understanding of the term "Ugly Duckling" was it refered to the Club Coupe. Once such a moniker is used to descibe something, those with little imagination, or who want to parrot the latest 'Buzz Words' latch onto the idea, and then begin to refer to anything in the same year or class regardless of it's style, as "The Ugly Duckling".
Time has proved the parrots wrong.
