clutch freeplay should be 1" to 1 1/2" when pushed down with your fingers, to much free play and trans will grind going into gear, to little and the clutch may slip because its not releasing all the way, and that causes the throw out bearing to turn all the time and is bad on the clutch pressure plate fingers, my guess is to much free play
