From what I can see on mine the factory put the rubber in and then went around the flange with a hammer and a pin punch about every 2 inchs and pinched the rubber in place. Take the windshield out and work on the bench it will be easier in the long run.

I did the same this weekend, only with it on the car. It took about an hour. I need to put the hinge seal on yet though.
