Default Update On My Valve Sticking Motor

If you recall, I got my engine running in my 29RPU. After having run it with the carb that was running very rich several times trying to get a nice idle, it developed a bad clanking sound which accompanied a very rough running motor. It would run OK for awhile then run terrible with the noise that was there only when it ran poorly.

Well I pulled the motor and tore it down for inspection. The only thing I found that was suspect was a couple valves had a fair amount of carbon buildup on the stems. There was no galling anywhere. Since it was apart, I pulled the double nut lifters and replaced them with the single bolt type. I also honed the guides for the exhaust valves a little so they would be a little looser than the intakes, as the spec calls for the exhausts to be a little looser. Put it all back together and fired her up today with a properly setup carb. Ran it at high RPM to break in the new lifters, and she ran real nice. I'm thinking I should re-torque the head and cover the chassis, putting it aside to begin work on the body, resisting temptation to run until I can drive it. Some day....... Needless to say I'm feeling much better about things. Now the sheet metal. Thanks to those who gave me encouragement.
