Default Re: Jegs Electric Fuel Pump

Most after market electric fuel pumps do not shut off during operation. The exceptions are some low pressure soleniod or electronic designs. Your JEGs looks like a Carter rotary vane design I am familiar with and runs continuous with the ignition on.

They are, however, not designed to run for extended lengths without fuel flow. I always install a switch to prevent the pump from running when performing engine work not needing fuel.

You need fuel flow (engine running) to create proper gauge pressure, but your fluid filled gauge may be the issue. I found many years ago that draining the fluid allows the gauge to function normally. I've never understood the reason for fluid filled fuel gauges, and have proven they are not needed more than once, at least when vehicle mounted and not on the engine.
