i've got one and never got it to work properly (6v pos), or more accurately never could get the car started with it in the car. and i griped about it plenty. as time passes though, i'm wondering if it has to do with the ballast resistor or lack thereof.
as AFAIK, solid state circuitry is very sensitive to voltage requirements. and it's my understanding that a ballast resistor, if in fact one exists at all, in the line from the ignition toggle to the coil may or may not modify the nominal voltage from the battery to the coil at various stages during starting and running of the engine. and there's too much conflicting information about it on the net, such that, for me to make use of.
so i must test ballast resistor issues with my trusty multimeter in various and sundry ways for me to come to any conclusions WRT the amount of voltage my coil is receiving. not insurmountable, but more tedious than it could be if i could be confident WRT voltage at the coil under various conditions in a 6v positive ground system. but like a birdsnest in a bait casting reel, once it's really messed up, there's nothing for it but to cut it out, toss the rest of the line away and throw a new spool on. so that's what i'll do....one of these days.
