couldn't agree more with the remark about poor wiring.

my car had an 8v battery in it when i first bought it. it wasn't running. after removing the 8v battery and the ruined voltage regulator and solenoid and the, get this, 12v starter and replacing it with the original 6v starter that was fortunately still in the trunk, and then replacing all the battery and starting system cables with#00 copper wires, she cranks over and starts up as well as any 12v car i've ever owned.
