I don't care what anyone says - modern bias-ply tires ride a lot harder than the old. I used to drive on the old, and whilst I don't disagree with tramlining on cracks, taking a set even in moderate weather after being unused and loss of ultimate grip (though I have had 215/75R14 Toyo steels
suddenly let go in the wet under braking and Nangkang-branded steels slide slowly off a rain-streaming roundabout at walking pace necessitating a complete stop and restart! - I couldn't stop laughing), the ride was definitely better than steel-belted radials, otherwise the public would have complained about it. Even textile-belted radials rode better than steel.
