I believe that groups of Fedex routes are owned by different individuals who manage their drivers. UPS drivers are Teamsters members and are employees of UPS. I have sent and received many packages through UPS and have never been disappointed. I am sure that they make mistakes occasionally but rarely. The person sending often does not make labels correctly and the shipper gets the blame. JMHO
