Just to clarify about the filter I got with the engine, which was sitting in the bed of the 52 F1 pickup I bought. It has a connection on the top and a connection on the lower side. No indication of "inlet" or "outlet". I'm just going to pitch it and go with the System1 filter I have that came off of a dirt track race car. It is labeled In and Out. The reusable filter screen is to my liking. I only have 1300 miles on the overhaul and put about 500 miles per year on it.. Running Valvoline VR-1 oil which is changed every year or every 500 miles. Maybe I don't need the filter, but I do think it would add peace of mind. I am also replacing the breather tube and adding a PCV valve. Thanks for all of your input.
