Simply put, the 32-35 levers are designed to work with the 32-35 slanted shift towers. The 36-39 (plus the commercial & pickup truck levers up through 1952) are designed for the 36-39 (and the aforementioned commercial) upright shift towers. The two styles differ in length by roughly an inch at the bottom end.

Kube is right….you can cut the lever off the bottom end and reweld it another lower stub. Good welding technique is important…..you wouldn’t want the lever coming off in your hand during that shift from second to third…going up the hill….with an obnoxious trucker on your bumper.
