THANK YOU for letting us know. I think those end caps are made of die cast zinc. I never had any problems like you mentioned but replaced the original end caps with my own made out of 6061 aluminum because I wanted the look of aluminum. Use a drop of oil on threads when assembling. I realize most folks will be using the filter "as is" without custom made end caps so your experience is worth knowing.
