I realize that the Ford axle is "harder than the hubs of hell" as an old mechanic once told me. However. I have a short hard pin that I insert into the cotter pin hole just for insurance that no mushrooming of the axle occurs. Over kill I suppose but sometimes the amount of pressure needed to release the hub is tremendous.
