Mart's 57 T-Bird: Can I modify it so it starts in Park? Neutral safety switch upgrade! (Update 2434)
One of the quirks of these older Automatics was only being able to start in Neutral. This was a contributing factor to a little mishap I had when I accidentally selected reverse while working on the car. Luckily no damage was done. When I showed this, a comment from a viewer prompted me to do some research. I found a description of some mods done to the switch to allow the car to be started in Park as well as Neutral, which is more the norm in later vehicles.
