QUESTION 1.
The stock temp. (and all the other dash gauges) will work only on 6 volts and DOES NOT operate on the Ohms Law principle. Hence you have to reduce the incoming 12V to 6V in order for accurate stock gauge readings. If you want to use the stock BAT. gauge it must be isolated and fed separately with 12V. Installing a 60 ohm resistor in the 12V line that supplies power to the BAT gauge will reduce the voltage to 6V and the gauge will work.
QUESTION 2.
Place your transmission in Neutral and very carefully check the "play" in your shift column linkage. Your shifter bushings may be worn and replacements needed. There is a kit for this and it's easy to install. You also need to visually check all the points of contact and wear in the linkage under the car the actuates your clutch when you depress the pedal, such as the clevis pins. The cumulated wear causes "slop" and needs to be eliminated.
