For the full size '55/56 cars and wagons, the bushings for the lower A-arms are installed from the inside. You will notice the thick, heavy rubber portion of the bushings facing each other. There, you put on the big curved washers and nuts up against that thick rubber. So the knurled steel casing of the bushings are toward the car frame.
