I have always understood that "Canadian" or the so called "Denver" heads were the "poor mans" dirt racing heads. Dirt racers would grind the casting or Ford ID numbers off, paint them green, and try to pass them off as cast iron. Weiand also made similar heads in the aftermarket. They supposedly had a higher compression ratio.
