I have been using a 3M product, 3M-08840, sound deadening mats that come 19''x19" that come ten to a box for $75, and are self adhesive. One would fit inside a door easily and if you do the math cost's about $7.50 a door. I recently used them in a Model A and when you shut the door it sounds like a modern car, no more "tinny" sound and no tar smell.
