Well I don’t know much history about it. This is under a 2dr sedan project I bought a few years ago. It had mechanical backing plates but no drums, just hubs. I did remove the axle tubes to replace the gaskets. The gears and bearings inside looked very good. I did not take the carrier apart.

The hubs I am attempting to use are the hubs it came with but I am guessing they are newer, the drum sits on the outside of the hub.
Is that my problem?

I have a 37 rear end sitting around and the axle only sticks out approx 4 1/4”
