Just to add more to this, it might have been mentioned already but a lot of the early dipsticks had some kind of gasket material under that round portion just below the curve at the top. Maybe it was made of some kind of felt. My 36 dipstick doesn't have this material anymore and also reads over full with 5 quarts. I don't know how thick the material was, but this may be part of our pbms. Terry
