When I was faced with that problem, I used a split factory nut, put it over the good threads, welded the split back together, used heat on the smashed threads, and slowly and carefully backed the nut off, reforming the mashed threads in the process.
Just an idea, that worked for me. I have also been told that it is possible to buy a "split reforming die". (I haven't looked for that.)
