It's the old problem of supply and demand. On an absolute basis (overall tire production), supply is very low. On a relative basis (hobbyist requirements) demand is relatively high. The production problems are greatly complicated by the almost infinite variety of styles and sizes required, requiring smaller runs which always raises unit cost.
