Those early cases are not deep enough to install the larger diameter 29 tooth cluster in the usual way. The trick is to install the main drive gear without the bearing. The bearing is installed later. Indeed it is a trick and men that do this install are quite proud of their coordination with the main shaft assembly as part of the trick. Others will add details.
