If the tin covers were stapled on as original you can forget ever getting grease in between the leaves. Covers were not one of Henry's best ideas but a lot of 40's/50's cars had them. . Best bet is to remove them (not easy) and try spraying lube between the leaves. In the 50's I worked at a gas station lubing cars and we sprayed squeaky springs with a mix of kerosene and waste oil. Would last a 1000 miles. JMHO
