I think this is right - Ford deleted the valve inserts and just ran the valves straight in the block. To compensate for this downgrade, they introduced rotators on the valves. The slow rotation of the valves helps with seat life, offsetting the effect of the deletion of the inserted seats.

i could have just made that up but I think it is right.
