Bob,
I have replaced linings on several cars and like you say it is time consuming(like drilling, counter boring, and riveting). but for me it is not""punishment"". My hourly rate is low ($0). But a lot of us enjoy getting the satisfaction of playing with our old Ford and rebuilding existing parts. Especially in the winter when we cannot drive them. I have a stove in my shop so in it often and sometimes find myself fixing something that isn't even broke!!
In this bolt on/throwaway society we could just go out and buy foreign made brake shoes, new carbs, new fuel pumps, etc.
Not being critical here just pointing out there are different strokes for different folks and your helpful advise on the Barn is appreciated by all.
