I recently picked up a 35 Ford pickup project which has had a lot of work done to it .It has a rebuilt 48 steering box/column in it. I am new to this generation of Ford column. The bottom plate on the steering box had the hole for the horn wire tube welded shut so there was no horn wire through the column.

I rebuilt the bottom plate/tube but got a surprise when I tried to snake the wire up the column. There is a spot in the steering shaft where it is solid. About a 2" long piece around 8" from the top right around where the column mount is. I thought the shaft was hollow all the way? Can anyone shed some light on this?
