Apparantly there's a little pad that goes between the hold down and the battery. I wonder if OEM 1940 Ford batterys had a wider top edge to accommodate that hold down mechanism?

I know it's not OEM correct but I just made a plastic spacer with a threaded hole and wedged it in between my firewall clamp and battery top. Many years ago someone brazed the firewall clamp in place so it's not movable. I never noticed it had been done. This car has been converted to 12V Neg. grnd. so battery cables are switched.
