Pretty much just by the way they look (I know, not much of an answer). All the modern slingshots that I've seen have a 'Made in USA' badge on them and the aluminum tends to have more 'shine' out of the box. Also, the pattern is just a bit different. Here you'll see both - the area in the front (below the generator) is obviously a bit different.

Notice the thickness and depth of the area where the generator bolt attaches - that is easy to pick out.
