My dad installed a starter button on the dash of my 35 back in the day. Not sure if it's the same as the button on your 39 but mine has two spring clips behind the dash that just need to be squeezed together to get the button out. If I recall, there was flattened indents on each side of the hole to accept those spring clips. I left my button in the dash when I restored the car as an anti-theft device.
