If the body and paint are as you say,"in excellent condition" I would not by any means repaint the car. A good shop can sand down the nicks, apply a little filler and touch up with an air brush or touch up gun. A little wet sanding and buffing will bring the new paint down to the original paint thickness and assuming the color match is OK, the repair becomes invisible.
