Overheard in a motorcycle showroom:
A new rider was getting a helmet to go along with his new bike. The showrrom had a whole wall of helmets in all kinds of styles, colors, and prices.
He asked "How much should I spend on a new helmet?"
The reponse was "well, if you have a $10 head you should buy a $10 helmet"

So in the same vein, how much you spend on your paint job will be a reflection of how much you value your car and what type of quality you desire. There's nothing wrong with doing a Maaco paint job, they are probably done with better materials and techniques than were available 70 years ago. But some folks desire something closer to what the auto makers are currently turning out, and that will run into a few thousand at minimum.
