Thanks for the sobering reminder that we should be thankful for so much today, thankful to those who went before us.
I was born in 1938 and clearly remember my GGF who was born in 1856. He was an orphan, grew up in farm foster homes, had little schooling, was a farmer laborer all his life, never owned a home, never owned or drove a car, always had to rent an apartment. His first wife died at age 24 leaving him to raise their 3 children .... and he did an admirable job of it. At age 93 he died in an "Old Men's Home". Four old men from the home attended his funeral, stood before his body and proclaimed in unison "We'll meet you in heaven Dan".
Where is that quality and kind of strength and devotion today ?
